Fantastic Display by Up and Coming Juniors at U13!!

U13Teamred.jpg

On Sunday 29 June, Buckinghamshire played their younger players up to take on Northamptonshire in this friendly U13 fixture. Of the 15 members in the team, eleven were under 11 and three were even under 9!

The Buckinghamshire team played really well, and the result was further indication of the increasing strength in depth of the Bucks badminton juniors.

The match was intensely close, with very. Buckinghamshire just took the honours 20-21 – an excellent performance considering the age difference.

The Buckinghamshire team was selected from Milton Keynes and High Wycombe and cheered support for each other throughout the match. Parents also enjoyed the event and commented on what an honour it was to be picked to represent the county.

The players representing Buckinghamshire were:

Callum Hemmings

Avinash Gupta

Steven Stallwood

Daniel Ivall

Harry Hewitt

Thomas Joy

Jamie May

Max Kelly

Oliver Chapman

Dominque Bell

Molly Chapman

Compose a Bucks Anthem!! by Jo Chal.

Categorized as Public. Not tagged.

Our U13s achieved huge success this season and we want to make  Bucks even more prominent among the successful Counties at team events in the 2010-2011 season!!

Our team quality, discipline, and invaluable parental support is such that over the coming years, we have the capability to rival top Counties like Yorkshire for consistency, depth and top honours!!

Other Counties have their chants and routines, and we want to have the best!!

We have our lion as a mascot.

All juniors are invited to submit their proposed anthem / chant and 'moves' to become the most prominent  trademark at team events.

Please send your ideas to me at BSBA@hotmail.co.uk  and we will pick a winner - by the end of August.

The winning entry will receive the glory and be posted on this website

All ideas are welcome!!!

!!!Take Part in our World Record Attempt!!!! by Nina Bridge.

Categorized as Public. Not tagged.

Nina Bridge of Badminton England  is requesting juniors to take part in a world record breaking attempt!

The world record

‘Most participants in a badminton rally’

The most participants in a badminton rally is 96 and was achieved by Aviva (Singapore), in Raffles City Mall, Singapore, on 23 May 2009.

We will attempt to break this world record on Saturday 7th August at Stoke Mandeville Stadium between 1-3pm. For us to achieve this we will need well over 100 players to take part. We do not only want to break this record but smash it (excuse the pun)!!

I would like to take this opportunity to invite you and your club to take part in our world record attempt. We will also be organising some exhibition matches and some other fun activities for you and your team mates to come and take part in.

We hope to raise money from this event not only for our Community Badminton Network, to support new badminton initiatives in the local area, but also for Wheel Power.

If you would like to be involved in this world record attempt, please complete the registration form and send it back to NinaBridge, BADMINTON England, National Badminton Centre, Loughton Lodge, Milton Keynes, MK8 9LA. I will then allocate you a number and I can also send you a sponsorship form so you can raise money if you are interested in doing so.

Bucks U17 Turn the Tables and Take the Shires Badminton National Title!! by Peter Digby.

Bucks U17 Turn the Tables and Take the Shires Badminton National Title

 U17ShiresFinal2_red.jpg

In the ICT finals, Bucks came third to Cheshire and Yorkshire. The  Shires League finals held at Hatfield University last weekend gave the opportunity for Bucks to take revenge!

The top eight Counties in the country fought for this Shires League title. The format was for teams to compete over 20 rubbers –  8 singles, 8 level doubles, and 4 mixed.

Bucks had won their Regional title to qualify for the National finals as one of the top seeds. This  normally gives  an easier route through the tournament, but because some of our rivals came second in their respective Regions, it proved hard.

We were drawn to play Surrey in the first round. By reputation they would be a huge challenge.

Although nervous to start with, the team showed its collective fighting spirit and with some huge performances, Bucks won by a comfortable margin 16–4.  A good victory to help build Bucks’  confidence ready for the second round draw against Cheshire, conquerors the previous week!

Cheshire came at Bucks with the intent to  repeat their victory, but had no answer to the U17  Bucks team’s’ fighting spirit. Bucks lost  3 of the first 4 games, but came back to level at 4 all after the boys games. Notably, Tom Stanford defeated Welsh International Daniel Font, and Jamie Kilgariff had a fine win against George Li.  Bucks  girls then took 3 of the 4 girls singles, and that  really drained the  confidence from the Cheshire team, with Bucks holding a 3 game lead.

Bucks now had a clear edge, and with the next 4 games being shared, it was left to our girls doubles pairs to show Cheshire a clean pair of heels. Revenge was sweet and Cheshire were beaten 12-8.

Bucks were through to the final against Yorkshire, old enemies, and winners against Bucks the previous week! The excitement was building!

Yorkshire took a commanding lead 5-3. However, the fighting  spirit of  the girls in the team prevailed, and they won all four singles. Raveesha Fernando played a blinder with a notable win against Sophie Brown, a top U17. The score was now 7-5 to Bucks, - all to play for now and the Yorkshire players sensed a difficult time ahead!

The  boys doubles were shared 2 all, and  even more pressure mounted on the Yorks team with only the  girls doubles left. There were some awesome performances by the girls who won 3 of the remaining  4 games, giving Bucks the U17 Shires League title – 12-8.

All of the team contributed as one  to this fine effort to win yet another National title.

Peter Digby, the Team Manager  commended all players for their fair play under pressure, and extended the warmest  thank you to all the parents for their  support – without whwhich, there would have  been no success.

Celebrations afterwards were tinged with some sadness with the realisation that this was the last time this team would represent Bucks as juniors. What a success they have been right through the age groups!

BuckinghamshireCounty owes a big thank you to this team, a team of role models, and particularly to Tom Stanford – player and captain who always led from the front and gave 110% for Bucks.

The Team was:

Tom Stanford (captain)

Jamie Kilgariff

Cameron Orr

Andy Robinson

Ollie Digby

Raveesha Fernando

Emily Jeffs

Lexi  Gilders

Jess Wilkins

Nicole Burgess

Lucy Mason
